Dutch stadium restyles its viewing room

Located inside the Philips Stadion, home of the PSV Eindhoven football team, in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, the Guus Hiddink Room is a space for guests to enjoy a spectacular view of the field on game days and serves as a venue for meetings, presentations, and receptions on other days. The room was named after Guus Hiddink, a former PSV football player turned coach of the team, who has become one of the most successful Dutch football coaches in history.

Stadion management decided to restyle the room with a new lighting solution. The previous lighting used primarily fluorescent lights, and the wall behind the reception area had been painted blue in the hopes of creating a diffuse light effect. The fluorescent lighting fixtures not only failed to achieve the desired effect, but they could not illuminate the panels on the bar evenly, causing areas of shadow.

The management chose to install an LED lighting solution from Color Kinetics. iW Cove Powercore luminaires (now specified as PureStyle Compact Powercore, IntelliHue) were installed for general lighting and were able to achieve the desired diffuse lighting effect. iColor Cove MX Powercore color-changing cove lights (now specified with PureStyle Compact Powercore, IntelliHue) were also installed to illuminate the panels below the bar and produce an even spread of light without any shadowing.

Once the installation was complete, the new room was able to accommodate any atmosphere guests wanted. For example, they can create a professional atmosphere with one solid color, or an upbeat atmosphere with changing colors. "The LED lighting solution perfectly fits our needs because this multi-functional meeting room requires flexible light setting to support the different events," said Léon M. van der Vorst, Manager of Business Development and Sponsoring at Philips.
