Fast food haven sparkles with LED lighting

The Foodstrip in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, is a strip of restaurants conveniently located adjacent to a highway, drawing in hungry drivers who need a break in their travels. Property owner Caransa wanted to attract even more attention and business to the restaurants on the strip, and knew that a new lighting system would do the trick.

The lighting had to integrate with sixteen flexible custom-made arches bent above the Foodstrip. Because of their lack of intelligence and the large amount of cables they require, conventional lighting would be unable to fulfill the installation's needs. Only an LED lighting solution offered the flexibility, intelligence, and simplicity of installation that could satisfy all of the project goals.

Lighting designer Jurgen Bal from LivingProjects lined the arches with 21,000 individually controllable nodes of Color Kinetics iColor Flex MX, making it easy for the property owners to program light shows and change colors whenever they wish.

The installation was completed in December 2012. With a dynamic lighting solution from Color Kinetics, the Foodstrip is now hard for drivers to miss.

"Thanks to the high quality of the product that was used in the project, we could not only accomplish the exact wishes of the client, but were also given a service guarantee on the installation for ten years," said Bal.
