    Giving the Tyne extra shine

Within sight of another Color Kinetics installation, Gateshead Millennium Bridge, the Tyne Bridge has linked Newcastle upon Tyne with its twin city Gateshead since 1928. The bridge’s granite towers bookend the parabolic arch that spans 162 m (531 ft).

When the existing energy-intensive lighting of the iconic bridge began to fail, Color Kinetics and LITE Ltd tested ColorReach Powercore luminaires (now specified with ReachElite) with a mix of lens to be mounted on new columns. In total 12 were installed - three for each column. Four additional luminaires were later added to illuminate the bridge structure itself.

Energy consumption has dropped by 85% since installing the new LED luminaires and the lights are controlled using a iPlayer 3 located on the quayside.
