Dynamic Lighting on Kim Brimer Bridge Enlivens the Surrounding City

The Kim Brimer Bridge has become a shining star in Arlington, Texas, USA. The bridge is situated among three sports stadiums and several busy walking paths. The new lighting installation, completed in March 2024, enlivens the area surrounding the bridge by attracting attention and synching its color displays with the nearby events.

The objective of the design was to make the Kim Brimer Bridge a focal point that brightened up the area with innovative lighting. The exterior iron frame of the bridge was the most distinctive element of the architecture. Lighting designer, Ben Whiting of Voss Lighting, chose to focus on illuminating the beam behind that frame early on, allowing the color to pop from behind and silhouette the iron.

Voss opted for Color Kinetics luminaires to get the job done. Graze Compact Powercore IntelliHue (4ft) luminaires were surface mounted end-to-end under the bridge, roughly 1ft setback, illuminating the concrete beam and silhouetting the iron frame. Additionally, Burst Powercore IntelliHue luminaires were mounted using the short adjustable mounting arm to highlight the columns. The installation is powered by Color Kinetics Data Enabler Pro and controlled by Light System Manager gen6 (now iPlayer 4).

Color Kinetics products were chosen due to their unparalleled quality as well as the tight integration between luminaires, power supplies, and controls. City Traffic Engineer, Chris Funches, says “Color Kinetics has given the City the ability to dynamically adapt to various events happening in the Entertainment District with ease.”
