PUB

Stockholm, Sweden

The elegantly lit dome is the visual centrepiece of PUB, Stockholm’s oldest department store. The upper level space is intended to serve as a natural gathering point, and therefore the dome’s lighting scheme was designed to draw customers up from the store’s lower floors.

The designers sought to create a dynamic atmosphere where customers would experience various scenes during their visit, and Philips intelligent LED lighting proved the ideal choice for bringing their concept to life.

During the day, ten different lighting scenes create variable ambiance in the space. For example, customers visiting in the morning are treated to a fifteen-minute sunrise scene, incorporating warm colors and smooth movements to align with the human bio-rhythm. In the afternoon, the pulse of the store quickens; the colors become more vivid and the dynamics more playful and experimental.

According to lighting designer Kai Piippo, “The dome breathes light!”
