The Dubai Frame is an observatory, museum and monument in Zabeel Park, Dubai, UAE. This incredible piece of architecture holds the record for the largest frame in the world, standing at an impressive 150 x 93 m (492 x 305 ft). The Dubai Frame was designed to serve as a symbolic bridge between the past and the present. It is positioned in such a way that iconic landmarks of modern Dubai can be viewed on one side, while the other side highlights the history of old Dubai. This design celebrates the rise of the city from its pearl-diving origins to becoming one of the world’s most enchanting and vibrant cities.
The iconic frame is created out of glass, steel and aluminum and reinforced with concrete. Sunlight reflects beautifully off of its gold façade during the day, but Dubai Municipality sought for a way to help this masterpiece be just as prominent by night. The solution included dynamic color changing architectural lighting by Color Kinetics.
The Installation features 380 Color Kinetics ColorBlast luminaires (now specified with Blast Powercore, RGBW) were used to complete this installation and 34 Color Kinetics ColorReach Powercore LED floodlights (now specified with ReachElite) washing over the frame’s façade. ReachElite luminaires are perfect for lighting tall and large structures, providing more punch and excellent quality of light for exterior long-throw applications. In addition, 170 Color Kinetics ColorGraze MX4 Powercore luminaires were utilized to highlight the stainless gold cladding of the frame. The entirety of the lighting is controlled by Pharos.
As an icon by day and night and of the new and the old, the Dubai Frame continues to make an impact in the Dubai Skyline attracting locals and tourists alike. It has even become a popular backdrop for selfies, providing an actual #nofilter border to countless fun poses.
