Massive mall improves illumination
The Bluewater Shopping Centre, located in the small English town of Greenhithe, stands out in the retail industry as the UK's fourth largest shopping center. However, the previous lighting system in the 1.6 million sq ft mall was not so prominent. With the help of Color Kinetics, the lights were replaced with a new LED lighting solution that matches the grandeur of the shopping complex.
The project clients wanted a lighting system that would improve daytime illumination and accent the spacious interior of the large mall. This had to be accomplished with high-quality LED lighting, which lasts longer than incandescent bulbs and requires minimal maintenance.
Architainment, Ltd. partnered with Color Kinetics to install iColor Cove MX Powercore LED luminaires (now specified as PureStyle Compact Powercore, IntelliHue) that illuminate circular cove designs inside of the building. The team also installed ColorBlast Powercore LED luminaires to highlight the glass ceiling of the mall. Together, the light systems create an ambience of clarity, which tones down the busyness of the mall.
After the installation, the Color Kinetics lighting solution aided in "creating an allover charming and efficient lighting scheme for the Winter Garden," according to Graham Rollins of Lighting Design International.
