    Illuminating educational experiences

Spanning 10 floors, the Parsons Building at Newcastle College is home to the college’s business, childcare, healthcare, and science courses and encompasses a wide range of vocational facilities, including a simulation hospital ward, occupational health simulation space, science labs, and childcare education suites. To provide a pleasant environment for students, the Parsons Building also houses a cafeteria and coffee shop large enough to accommodate 150 students at a time. As part of a £15m transformation, The Parsons Building replaced the outdated, and no longer fit-for-purpose, Parsons Tower.

The lighting scheme for the renovation was developed by Park Lighting Design, who partnered with Color Kinetics Certified System Integrator, LITE LTD, to specify and supply the technology to achieve the design. Color Kinetics iColor Cove MX Powercore (now specified as Color Kinetics PureStyle Compact Powercore) was installed to illuminate the central atria of the new building. Each floor is programmed a different color, resulting in a vibrant and striking spectacle as night falls. Every 1,200 mm (4 ft) fixture is individually controlled using Color Kinetics iPlayer 3.

This dynamic lighting solution promises to maintain Parsons Building’s prominence in the Newcastle College area for years to come with the ability to change the color display as needed for holidays, special occasions, and to reflect global events.
