Color-changing lighting creates new focus in downtown Raleigh

Sometimes referred to as POP-150 or the Wells Fargo Building, 150 Fayetteville Street once stood dark and monolithic against the evening skyline. The tallest building on its side of downtown Raleigh, less than a block from the State Capital Building, the building owner recognized an opportunity to transform his building into a bold area landmark, as well as add energy and vitality to the area.

The building’s exterior metal halide fixtures had failed and needed to be replaced. The idea was to upgrade the façade lighting with efficient, flexible, and easily controllable color-changing LED lighting to enhance the building’s architecture. Impressed with the results of a previous Color Kinetics installation, the owner contacted Color Kinetics to initiate the project.

Color Kinetics ReachElite High Punch Powercore, IntelliHue 300 (12) and ReachElite High Punch Powercore, IntelliHue 100 (8) luminaires mounted on contractor-constructed sleds were used to achieve the desired results. The fixtures are controlled with Color Kinetics Light System Manager gen6 and powered by Data Enabler Pro (8).

Completed in May 2020, Color Kinetics products provided an ideal end-to-end solution for the project and required fewer fixtures for a faster and less costly installation. Moreover, the products used were configured for the unique application, creating a new showpiece in downtown Raleigh.
