Le Rêve at the Wynn Theatre

Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

According to the Las Vegas Sun, it’s “visually stunning.” Created by internationally acclaimed director Franco Dragone, Le Rêve is a spectacular show housed inside a domed theater-in-the-round, complete with a 1-million gallon pool as its centerpiece. Adding to the spectacle are ethereal water-based lighting effects enabled by Color Kinetics’ intelligent LED lighting.

The theater’s circular design incorporates a series of lifts that rise and sink, forming a dynamic “stage” for the performers. The central pool reflects colored light that sets the tone throughout the show.

“Franco told me very early on that the water had to be more than just a set piece --- it had to be a character of its own,” says lighting designer Koert Vermeulen. “I wanted the water to seem ‘alive,’ and after testing a lot of different equipment, LEDs seemed to be the perfect solution. To me, it seems that for the amount of wattage you get three-fold back in relation to conventional lighting equipment.”

Approximately 350 submersible C-S-lash 2 units were installed along the perimeter of the pool and inside the “Voms,” or entrances. In addition, a series of C-Splash 2 units were installed inside a lift to create a second ring of light inside the pool. Each unit is individually controllable to allow for complex sequences and seamless color-changing effects. Along with the show’s many conventional lights, the C-Splash units were controlled by the theater’s main DMX console.
