27 Knightsbridge

London, UK

In London’s exclusive Knightsbridge area, elegant buildings and shops line the busy streets. The classic office building at 27 Knightsbridge may appear traditional from the outside, but its interior proves otherwise.

Upon entering, visitors are welcomed by a dynamic glass wall that frames the reception desk with a vibrant burst of color, courtesy of Color Kinetics’ intelligent LED lighting technology.

The frosted glass wall measures 23.6 feet (7.2 meters) long by 8.2 feet (2.5 meters) high, comprising four vertical panels. To add saturated color and movement, a total of 24 ColorBlast® 12 units were installed within the wall, washing its surfaces with a series of custom-designed effects. The long-life, low-maintenance nature of ColorBlast 12 makes it well-suited for lighting the concealed space. In addition, its far-reaching output provides uniform color along the entire length and height of the wall. Eight different light shows were authored with ColorPlay® software, including fixed shades of red and blue, a very gradual chasing rainbow, color cross fades, and slow, random color changes. The shows were downloaded to iPlayer® 2 for storage and playback, and can be triggered with a simple Controller Keypad interface.

The end result is a vibrant, contemporary showpiece that blends light, art and architecture in a novel, eye-pleasing way.
