Imagine the dramatic, grand-scale lighting of a blockbuster concert tour inside a nightclub. That’s what Houston club-goers will find at Hush -- a 25,000 square foot space that takes nightlife to a new level in lighting and sound.

Hush opened its doors in August 2003 with an over-the-top design that was two years in the making. Its interior, conceptualized in house by the Hush Design Group, encompasses multiple levels and distinctive lounge and bar areas, all lit with dramatic washes of color. A sunken 2,300 square foot dance floor in the club’s center is surrounded by three levels of open balconies and VIP sky boxes. High above this central space is a circular “spider” truss with six leg-like segments that raise and lower in synch with the club’s music and mood. As an animated focal point, the truss incorporates 120 illuminated spokes, each comprised of two 1-foot lengths of Color Kinetics’ iColor® Accent. Collectively, the LED-based iColor Accent units produce dramatic, circular color chases and various color-changing effects, complementing the rig’s automated Martin fixtures, which wash light in multiple directions.

iColor Accent is a low-voltage, direct-view linear lighting system that offers designers and architects a cutting-edge, low-maintenance option for incorporating colored light and dynamic lighting effects. As an optimal solution for illuminating architectural highlights, iColor Accent proved ideal for this unique application, which called for highly controllable systems that allow near-infinite creative flexibility in design. As a result, owners Dan Deschamps and Kevin Johnson have the ability to alter the club’s ambience at their fingertips.
