Hotel Gansevoort
New York, NewYork, USA
Hotel Gansevoort in New York’s trendy Meatpacking District delivers a memorable experience for guests, beginning with its unmistakable exterior.
The hotel’s entrance features 18-foot (5.5 m) internally illuminated glass columns that gradually change color via Color Kinetics’ intelligent LED lighting technology. The columns seemingly create the illusion that the building is supported by light. Each column is lit by linear runs of iColor® Cove, which is DMX-controlled in 12” (30.5 cm) increments to allow for seamless shifts in color. The long-life, low-maintenance nature of the LED-based units makes them ideally suited for lighting enclosed spaces, where conventional sources may be impractical due to frequent replacement.
Hotel Gansevoort was designed by noted architect Stephen B. Jacobs and interior designer
Andi Pepper. Lighting plays an important role in all areas of the hotel, including another application of Color Kinetics’ technology in the lobby area, where ColorBlast® 12 units generate choreographed color changes that bathe the walls with light.
It’s no wonder the New York Times called Hotel Gansevoort “a shimmery palace of light.”
