Carnival Glory
Port Canaveral, Florida, USA
Carnival Glory set sail in July 2003 with all the style, amenities and special touches of a first-rate floating resort. The 2,974-passenger superliner joined Carnival’s “Fun Ship” fleet as the largest of its kind based in Port Canaveral, Florida. With the creative design capabilities of Color Kinetics’ intelligent LED illumination, the ship delivers a memorably colorful dining experience for passengers.
Among Carnival Glory’s distinctive lounges and restaurants are the two-level Golden and Platinum dining rooms, whose design was inspired by Japan’s famed Silver and Golden Temples. Its bonsai- and peony tree-themed wall coverings and unique decagon-shaped windows create an exotic space that’s crowned by a Color Kinetics-illuminated ceiling. Approximately 2,186 feet of iColor® Cove was installed inside translucent lighting panels that form dramatic, square-shaped fixtures across the first- and second-level ceilings. The modular iColor Cove systems are programmable in 6- and 12-inch increments to allow for highly customizable lighting effects that transform the dining room’s atmosphere. The effects range from serene, solid colors and gradual color fades, to faster paced rainbow chases.
A total of eight light shows were programmed and controlled with a combination of Color Kinetics’ ColorPlay® authoring software and iPlayer® 2. A simple Controller Keypad interface is used to select the desired light show at any time.
The inherent intelligence, superior control, and low-maintenance nature of Color Kinetics’ LED-based systems proved ideal for creating a one-of-a-kind dining experience at sea.
