Q. How are you inspired by working with light?
A. I treat light very similar to how an artist treats paint. There are so many possibilities in using light and color, and so often people overlook how much light can effect their emotions, personality, and day to day happenings. I am inspired when I open their eyes and share with them the endless possibilities in “painting” new looks or creating new effects with light.
Q. How did LED technology help you achieve your vision?
A. LED technology allows for full color mixing and bright illumination with minimal power consumption. As is the case with most installations, power usage is becoming a large decision factor. If you can provide your client with minimal power consumption, but with maximum lighting effects, it is a win-win situation. Additionally, LED-based fixtures give us the ultimate choice for color options and control effects. We are given a ‘pallet’ of virtually unlimited color choices. Even more importantly is that the LED fixtures draw only 50w per unit. This allowed us to use enough fixtures to encompass the entire structure without increasing the power needs beyond what was available.

Q. What is the most essential element of exemplary lighting design?
A. Creativity and being open to new ideas and technology.
Q. What role will LEDs play in the future of lighting?
A. As the LED technology improves, most of the day to day lighting will change to it. There are still some kinks that need to be worked out, but as those problems get resolved, LEDs will become the mainstay in the lighting and entertainment industry.
