PHILIPS' SOLID-STATE LIGHTING HEADQUARTERS HONORED FOR OUTSTANDING INTERIOR DESIGN

Burlington, MA - Uniquely designed as a showplace for the future of light, the 50,000-square foot, LED-illuminated headquarters of Philips Solid-State Lighting Solutions recently earned "Best in Show" honors at the International Interior Design Association's (IIDA) New England Interior Design Awards. The space was also named "Best Office" in the 20,000 - 50,000 square foot category.

The facility, which serves as the leading global research & development center for Philips' LED luminaires business, has brought a whole new category of industry-changing technology to the famed "tech corridor" of Massachusetts' Route 128.

"We're thrilled for the recognition of our one-of-a-kind space, particularly by the very design community that represents many of our customers," said Jeff Cassis, CEO, Philips Solid-State Lighting Solutions. "Our facility is a reflection of creative design, collaborative workspaces and, most importantly, the extraordinary use of light that our technology makes possible. We've made our space a canvas for the very LED technology that illuminates prominent buildings and interiors around the world today, while rapidly progressing towards consumer lighting applications."

Officially unveiled in December 2007, the office space merges the principles of eco-friendly design with innovative uses of Philips' LED lighting throughout. It incorporates many special features designed to showcase both existing and forward-looking applications of LED lighting, in addition to cutting-edge amenities for product design and development. These include:

  • A visually striking showroom that's lit entirely by LED sources and designed to mimic various market applications
  • Conference rooms and common spaces that incorporate both color and white LED lighting systems
  • Dynamic "portal" passageways lined by 24,350 individually controlled LED nodes for dramatic effect
  • A state-of-the-art workshop, optics lab and machine shop for product design and testing
  • A commemorative wall of history displaying LED product innovations through the years
  • Prominent, projected images of the company's many notable lighting installations
  • Colorful LED lighting throughout workstation areas
  • Exterior LED accents and a color-changing sign that create visibility from Route 128
Construction of the office space was managed by J. Calnan & Associates with lighting design by Focus Lighting, Inc. of New York.
