Color Kinetics Expands Line of Design and Playback Tools
for Full Spectrum Digital Lights
LDI 2000
Booth #1650
LAS VEGAS - LDI 2000 - October 20, 2000
Expanding its line of innovative lighting design tools, Color Kinetics Incorporated, the pioneer of full spectrum digital lighting, today announces new and updated software and hardware tools that enable anyone-from first-time users to experienced lighting designers and software developers-to create, store, playback and share professional-quality light shows using Color Kinetics' award-winning digital color-changing lighting:
ColorPlay™ 1.5, an updated version of Color Kinetics' innovative, graphically-based lighting design software package, offers several new features that make creating and editing dynamic Color Kinetics light shows easier and faster than ever. Designed to bring lighting design to a simpler, more intuitive level, ColorPlay enables anyone to quickly and easily create and edit dynamic lighting shows for Color Kinetics' full line of digital color-changing lights, without the need for technical programming skills or complex, expensive lighting boards. With menus written in plain English, ColorPlay uses a graphical timeline-based show management system and includes a vast array of various lighting effects and functions. ColorPlay outputs DMX512 data which, when used in conjunction with Color Kinetics lights, enables the creation of smooth, fluid lighting effects.
New for ColorPlay 1.5 are:
- an updated user interface that makes using ColorPlay even more intuitive;
- Tooltips and Hot Keys that enable even faster creation of light shows;
- the Custom Rainbow effect, which allows users to create a Chasing Rainbow using their choice of colors;
- the ability to print out the Mapping and Timeline screens for later reference;
- the ability to store longer, more complex shows on iPlayer;
iPlayer™ 1.5, the latest version of Color Kinetics' digital light show storage and playback solution, offers the same benefits as the original iPlayer, but with twice the show storage capacity. A fraction of the size of conventional storage and playback devices, iPlayer fits into a standard courier envelope for easy delivery of light shows to different locations, allowing designers the ability to maintain creative control and achieve consistency of their light show vision - all at a fraction of the cost of similar devices. The rewrite-able memory permits shows to be updated and stored without additional hardware investments. iPlayer stores DMX512 shows produced either with Color Kinetics™ ColorPlay software or on a lighting console. The iPlayer system contains 2MB of non-volatile memory and runs light shows created for as many as 64 DMX addresses. The automatic restart function means that starting the show is practically effortless, and an LED indicator makes it easy to determine the iPlayer status, even from a distance. iPlayer Software 1.5, included with iPlayer, allows users to easily import and edit DMX light shows on a PC and then store them on iPlayer.
DMX Developer's Kit, a new application programming interface, allows designers to use familiar computer programming languages, such as Visual C++ and Java, to control and create dynamic light shows for Color Kinetics full spectrum digital lights. DMX Developers Kit for C++ runs under Microsoft Windows 98, Windows 2000 and Windows NT 4.0, and is designed for use with Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 or later. Java DMX Developers Kit runs under all of the above operating systems, plus Mac OS 8 or greater. It is designed for use with the Java programming language version 1.1.8 or later. Each DMX Developer's Kit includes the DMX Library files, documentation, and source code for an example program created using the DMX Library.
