Power and Data Multiplexing Technology Enables First-of-its-Kind
Lighting Control
LDI'99, Orlando, FL — November 19, 1999 — Color Kinetics
Incorporated, the pioneer of full spectrum digital lighting, today
introduces Smartjuice™, the company's new intelligent power
technology that multiplexes data and power, enabling control of
iColor™ MR digital lights over conventional wiring. Smartjuice
is a patent-pending core technology that enables the creation of
beautiful colored lighting effects via standard fixtures and wiring
configurations
Producing advanced dynamic lighting effects requires that data be
sent to lamps to control their functions. Traditionally, sending
this data to lighting fixtures necessitated installing a completely
separate wire in addition to the existing power and ground wires.
Color Kinetics' Smartjuice changes all of that. Its exclusive multiplexing
technology brings both power and data to the lamps over existing
wiring. The separate incoming lines for power and data are combined
into a common outgoing line of power and data multiplexed together.
Smartjuice allows a sophisticated level of lighting control, even
permitting individual control of Color Kinetics iColor MR lamps
in conventional low-voltage track, rail and cable systems.
The benefits of Smartjuice are a boon for lighting designers, architects,
electrical contractors and end users alike. Because Smartjuice flows
over existing conventional wiring, designers can have the lighting
control they want without having their original project vision spoiled
by clumps of additional wiring. Installers and electrical contractors
will not need to spend time performing complex rewiring of existing
fixtures, and end users get brilliant color and colored lighting
effects with an easy retrofit, minus the time and expense that would
have been incurred through rewiring what is already in place.
Color Kinetics continues to expand its research and development
efforts, resulting in exclusive, patent pending core technologies
like Smartjuice, which joins Chromacore™, Color Kinetics' patent-pending
technology that uses LEDs and a microprocessor to generate 16.7
million colors and a variety of color-changing effects.
