COLOR KINETICS HONORED FOR BRINGING EXCELLENCE,
COLOR AND "SPIRIT OF FUN" TO THE LIGHTING INDUSTRY

Chosen by Jury of Lighting Industry Professionals as Winner
of Inaugural 'Roeder Award' at Lightfair International 99

SAN FRANCISCO — May 11, 1999 — Color Kinetics Incorporated, the pioneer of full spectrum digital lighting, captured the first annual Roeder Award at Lightfair International'99. The award, which recognizes a lighting product and company that exemplifies dedication, commitment to excellence, use of color and an overall sense of fun, honors the late, internationally renowned lighting designer Craig A. Roeder.

The award was created in recognition of Roeder's incredible contributions to the lighting industry through his breakthrough designs and unparalleled use of color in lighting, as well as through his efforts to help create and sustain the Lightfair New Product Showcase in celebration of industry excellence. "Craig Roeder was known throughout the industry for his outrageous sense of color, fun and overall 'love of life,'" said Rene Gable, Chairman of the Lightfair New Product Showcase Committee and creator of the Roeder Award. "I know Craig would have loved Color Kinetics color-changing lighting because it personifies something that was very important to him — the use of color in lighting design, which is prevalent in many of his award-winning lighting design projects."

Color Kinetics founders George Mueller and Dr. Ihor Lys accepted the award at the New Product Showcase and Awards Presentation held during Lightfair International'99 in San Francisco. "Of all the industry recognition that we have received in the past year and a half, this award is particularly special and meaningful because it acknowledges the real essence of Color Kinetics as a company," said Mueller. "Craig Roeder embodied joy, excellence and most of all color, which are what Color Kinetics people and products are all about. We are honored to be recognized by the industry as a company true to Craig's spirit." The Roeder Award continues Color Kinetics' impressive streak of success at Lightfair International, where last year the company earned the 'Best New Product of the Year' award for its C-Series.

The Roeder Award acknowledged Color Kinetics' new iColor™ Cove as a product that exemplifies the spirit of Craig Roeder in its notable use of color. Unveiled at Lightfair International'99, the iColor Cove — like Color Kinetics' other award-winning products, the C-Series and iColor MR — is powered by Chromacore™, the company's patent-pending technology which generates over 16.7 million colors using a microprocessor and RGB color mixing of LEDs (light emitting diodes). iColor Cove projects a soft-edged strip of light at a 100° beam angle, and built-in intelligence runs an assortment of lighting shows such as color cross fades, color washes, random color changes or constant colors. Segments are available in six and 12 inch lengths which can mounted end to end or staggered, allowing easy installation in tight spaces and curved areas and enabling incredible lighting design flexibility.

Multiple Awards for Color Kinetics — "A Breath of Fresh Air" for the Industry
In addition to the Roeder Award, Color Kinetics received the first annual 'IMAGE Award' for the most innovative Lightfair International'99 pre-event direct mail campaign. Built around a colorful San Francisco/Chinatown theme, the Color Kinetics campaign colorfully inspired leading lighting designers to visit the Color Kinetics Lightfair booth. This 'killer combination' of an eye-catching campaign, 'how-do-they-do-that?' lighting technology, and the most talked about headgear on the show floor led more than one booth visitor to remark how newcomer Color Kinetics — through its products and people — is truly a 'breath of fresh air' for the lighting industry.
