COLOR KINETICS ADDS HIGH TECH COLOR TO 2002 MONTREUX JAZZ FESTIVAL

Company's Pioneering Intelligent LED Illumination to Light Up the Montreux Jazz Club During the 36th Montreux Jazz Festival, July 5 - 20, 2002

BOSTON AND MONTREUX, SWITZERLAND - July 9, 2002 - Color Kinetics, the pioneer of intelligent LED illumination technology, is pleased to announce its cutting-edge color changing lighting fixtures will be featured at the 36th Montreux Jazz Festival, scheduled July 5 - 20, 2002, in Montreux, Switzerland. For 36 years, the Montreux Jazz Festival has brought the best in music and culture to music lovers across the world. This year, it's also bringing them the most advanced lighting technology through the use of Color Kinetics intelligent LED illumination products. During the 16-day festival, Color Kinetics' revolutionary ColorBlast® LED wall washing lighting fixtures will add color and set the mood of the Festival's Montreux Jazz Club.

Premiering at the 2002 Festival, the Montreux Jazz Club is a new "after-hours" area offering Auditorium Stravinski ticket-holders a place to unwind after enjoying shows from such world-renowned artists as David Bowie, Paul Simon, Joe Cocker, B.B. King and Isaac Hayes. As envisioned by Festival founder Claude Nobs, the Montreux Jazz Club offers visitors a comfortable and relaxing environment highlighted by acoustic Jazz and Blues background music, a bar, and soothing, subtly changing colored light from Color Kinetics. In a lighting design created by SCENETEC & Co, nearly 20 Color Kinetics® ColorBlast fixtures will be placed onstage to softly bathe the walls with rich colored light and dynamic lighting effects. Color Kinetics ColorBlast fixtures are powered by the company's patented Chromacore® technology, which utilizes microprocessor-controlled, multicolored LEDs to generate millions of colors of light and a variety of color changing lighting effects. In addition to opening up incredible creative possibilities, Chromacore-powered products offer a number of benefits making them the perfect choice for this high-profile event, such as low power consumption, very little heat production, and no noise generation.

Being a major music fan himself, Color Kinetics Co-Founder, Chairman and CEO George Mueller is especially excited about the use of his company's products during this popular music festival. "It truly is an honor to be involved with such a world-renowned event, and to have our technology enjoyed by some of the world's most prominent artists and executives," he notes. "As well as being a milestone for Color Kinetics, the use of LED illumination products at the Festival signals a key breakthrough in the acceptance of LED technology in staging and theatrical applications. LEDs have made significant strides in brightness over the past few years, making them more appropriate for these types of productions," Mueller adds. In addition to the 36th Montreux Jazz Festival, Color Kinetics intelligent illumination technology is currently playing a leading role in major Broadway productions, including Thoroughly Modern Millie, Hairspray (opening on Broadway next month), and the touring production of Aida.

Color Kinetics was founded in 1997 with the introduction of its flagship Chromacore intelligent LED illumination technology, and quickly revolutionized the lighting industry by creating a completely new category of lighting. The company offers a full line of digital lighting solutions in use today by the industry's top lighting designers and architects, as well as the world's most well-respected companies, including Disney, Sony, Marriott, Saks Fifth Avenue, Harrods of London, Loews, and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, just to name a few. With the addition of the Montreux Jazz Festival to this list of high-profile installations, Color Kinetics continues its mission to expand the uses of LED illumination technology throughout the world.
