COLOR KINETICS WINS "BEST NEW PRODUCT OF THE YEAR" AT LIGHTFAIR INTERNATIONAL 1998
Color Kinetics earned its third major tradeshow award of the year today
in Las Vegas when the revolutionary C-Series was named "Best New Product
of the Year" at Lightfair International 1998. The product line also won
top honors at Lighting Dimensions International 1998 ("Architectural Lighting
Product of the Year") and GlobalShop98 ("Advisory Board Choice, Hot New
Product").
Lightfair International is North America's largest architectural and commercial
lighting trade show. An eagerly awaited event on the annual lighting calendar,
it is traditionally used by leading companies such as GE, Philips and
Osram Sylvania to launch new products. This year, over 12,000 trendsetting
professionals in the fields of engineering, architecture and lighting
design were in attendance, and a record setting 355 companies exhibited.
The event took place May 27-29 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Color Kinetics actually earned multiple awards at Lightfair. In addition
to the show's top award, the C-Series earned distinction as a "Category
Innovator" in the Architectural Lighting class. The awards were presented
on the opening morning of the show at the New Products Showcase and Awards
Ceremony.
Winners were selected by a jury of renowned lighting professionals that
included Larry French and Pamela Hull Wilson of the International Association
of Lighting Designers (IALD), and Donald Newquist and Roger Smith from
the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA). Products
qualified for the competition only through "innovation" in one of the
following categories: new development or design, engineering improvement,
line expansion, new trend or application, advancement of state-of-the-art
energy savings, significant progress in the art or science of lighting,
or new development facilitating lighting design.
Color Kinetics founder George Mueller was "over the moon" about the most
recent honor. "This award is incredibly exciting because it reaffirms
our belief that Chromacore, our patent-pending technology, marks
a revolution in the very concept of lighting design. We see a fantastic
range of applications, and this is proof that others recognize that potential
as well."
Chromacore, which powers all Color Kinetics technology, uses a microprocessor
to control variable-intensity, super bright LEDs in order to generate
colors and color lighting effects through additive RGB color mixing. It
offers significant functional and aesthetic improvements over conventional
lighting technology including low power consumption, low heat generation,
totally silent operation and long source life. The C-Series can be operated
in either stand-alone or networked PC/DMX512 controlled modes.
