COLOR KINETICS INTRODUCES iCOLOR COVE
Unleashes the power of Chromacore technology in alcove spaces
May 6, 1999 — Dallas, TX — Color Kinetics Incorporated, the
pioneer of full spectrum digital lighting, announces today the introduction
of iColor™ Cove, bringing digital color-changing light and lighting
effects to alcoves and accent areas without the drawbacks, expense or
constraints of conventional colored lighting methods. iColor Cove's first-of-its-kind
dexterity to control every segment of a cove installation allows incredible
lighting design flexibility such the ability to create dynamic chasing
effects. Its low-profile, modular design is easy to install in tight spaces
and in curved areas.
Like Color Kinetics' other award-winning products, the C-Series and iColor
MR, iColor Cove is powered by Chromacore™, the company's patent-pending
technology which generates over 16.7 million colors using a microprocessor
and RGB color mixing of LEDs (light emitting diodes). This digital light
generation differs from ordinary lighting techniques which require motors
and filters over white light sources to produce colors and color effects.
iColor Cove's built-in intelligence runs an assortment of lighting shows
such as color cross fades, color washes, random color changes or constant
colors. It can also be externally controlled by industry standard DMX512
controllers, PCs, or a range of easy to use controllers soon to be released
from Color Kinetics. Plus, each section can be individually addressed
allowing advanced control throughout the entire run of an installation.
One of the many advantages of Chromacore technology is its ultra long
source life. iColor Cove incorporates LEDs whose predicted source life
is rated at 100,000 hours. It uses little power, produces virtually no
heat or UV emissions, and produces dynamic color without moving parts.
iColor Cove projects a soft-edge strip of light at a 100 degree beam angle.
Segments are available in six and 12 inch lengths, housed in a rugged,
vented low profile/narrow footprint design. Each segment can be mounted
end-to-end or staggered. A flexible color-coded pigtail connects each
segment to a master cable to supply power and data. This adaptable, modular
approach makes it possible to add sophisticated color-changing lighting
to installations with curves or complicated geometry.

iColor Cove jointly debuts at the American Institute of Architects and
Lightfair conventions. Color Kinetics is no stranger to success at shows
such as these, earning the "Best New Product of the Year" award for its
C-Series at Lightfair'98. Since that time, introductions of breakthrough
products such as iColor MR (an MR16 replacement lamp) and now iColor Cove,
continue to impress those in the lighting field. With these development
