Color Kinetics' ColorBlast™ Offers Big Lighting Design Possibilities in a Compact, Sleek Package

Lightfair 2000 Booth #473

NEW YORK — Lightfair 2000 — May 9, 2000 — Color Kinetics Incorporated, the pioneer of full spectrum digital lighting, continues to revolutionize the lighting industry with the introduction today of ColorBlast, the world's first digital lighting fixture designed to wash interior and exterior walls with rich, saturated colors and color changing effects. The company's newest product offers a unique study in contrasts, combining beautifully vibrant and uniform throw of colored light with architecturally sophisticated, streamlined styling. ColorBlast's superior technological engineering provides smooth, seamless light output and unlimited design possibilities by utilizing Color Kinetics' patented Chromacore® technology to generate over 16.7 million colors and color changing effects via microprocessor-controlled red, green and blue LEDs (light emitting diodes).

With ColorBlast, looks truly are deceiving. The chic, clean lines of the fixture belie the powerful technical capabilities and unlimited design possibilities it houses. ColorBlast's compact design projects a 24° angle soft-edge beam of light, which washes interior and exterior walls up to 10' high with rich, saturated color and a variety of color changing effects. As with all of Color Kinetics' digital color-changing lights, ColorBlast's built-in intelligence offers onboard control to run an assortment of pre-programmed colored lighting shows, including color washes, cross-fades, random colors, fixed colors and strobes. The fixture also may be easily programmed and controlled externally by an industry standard DMX512 lighting console, a PC or Color Kinetics' own line of controllers.

ColorBlast's versatile low-profile design allows it to be used in any number of retail, visual display and architectural environments. Equipped with an industrial-grade constant torque hinge, the fixture offers a variety of mounting and aiming capabilities, whether it's mounted to a wall or ceiling, or placed on the floor. The high-fashion design comes in both black and white powder coat finishes to blend with nearly any surrounding. More importantly, ColorBlast's beauty is matched in its strength. Enclosed in stylish, yet rugged cast aluminum, weather-resistant ColorBlast can be used in indoor and outdoor environments.

"The introduction of ColorBlast signals another milestone in Color Kinetics' mission to lead the lighting industry into the digital age," said George Mueller, Color Kinetics' President and CEO. "With the invaluable input of our customers, we've created a product that marries sleek and sexy styling with our revolutionary digital technology. This high-tech design tool adds a new dimension to the Color Kinetics 'lighting paint box' and opens up a whole new world of creative lighting possibilities," he added.

In developing ColorBlast, Color Kinetics utilized feedback culled from the industry's leading lighting designers, architects and retail display directors to design a product that would meet their needs, without the drawbacks of conventional lighting technology. Every detail of ColorBlast has been designed with the architectural environment in mind, from the performance targets and mechanical design to the mounting method and color of the fixture. Each detail was carefully designed to make the use of ColorBlast as seamless and easy as possible.

As with all of Color Kinetics' products, ColorBlast uses the company's innovative, patented Chromacore technology (U.S. patent #6,016,038) to generate over 16.7 million colors and color effects via microprocessor-controlled red, green and blue LEDs. Chromacore technology offers many benefits over conventional lighting methods, which require gels, dimmers and moving parts to produce colors and color effects. In addition to providing a broad spectrum of colors, Color Kinetics' products use little power, have an ultra long life and produce little heat and no noise or UV emissions. Also, because they use digital technology, with Color Kinetics' products it's possible to incorporate color and light into a host of other intelligent technologies.

With the introduction of ColorBlast at Lightfair 2000, Color Kinetics hopes to build on its string of previous successes at the conference, where its C-Series was named "Best New Product of the Year" in 1998, and the company and its iColor™ Cove were honored with the first annual "Roeder Award" at Lightfair '99. ColorBlast is the first product to be introduced in Color Kinetics' new Blast Light line of high-style architectural fixtures, joining the company's award-winning C-Series and iColor families of lighting products.
