TOP BUSINESS NEWSPAPERS HAVE SEEN THE "DIGITAL" LIGHT
… AND IT'S COLORED BY COLOR KINETICS!

Color Kinetics and its Revolutionary Full Spectrum Digital Lighting Technology
Featured in Leading U.S. Business Publications

BOSTON — February 28, 2000 — A new light has dawned over the business press, and it's colored by Color Kinetics! The pioneer of full spectrum digital lighting, Color Kinetics is revolutionizing the lighting industry by leading it into the digital age, and the country's top-tier business press is taking notice. The company and its patented Chromacore™ technology, which uses microprocessors to control red, green and blue LEDs in order to generate over 16 million colors and colored lighting effects, have been featured in such prestigious business publications as The Wall Street Journal, The Boston Globe and the Boston Sunday Herald, among others.

In the September 7, 1999, edition of The Wall Street Journal, Reporter Evan Ramstad contributed an intriguing article on the number of products today claiming to be digital ("Products Go Digital … Whether They Are or Not"). Kathy Pattison, Color Kinetics' vice president of marketing, is quoted in this article along with representatives from such well-known companies as Whirlpool Corp.'s KitchenAid unit and Xerox Corp. As Ramstad noted, digital technology is becoming more prevalent in many products used by consumers today, with "even digital lights becoming central to our digital lives." However, in an interesting twist, he notes an increase in the number of companies using the term as "an all-purpose adjective for what wants to appear 'high-tech,'" but points to Color Kinetics as one company whose products are truly digital.

The Boston Globe heard the buzz surrounding Color Kinetics and featured the company in an article in its November 12, 1999, issue ("Bright Prospects: Firm's Bulbs Merge Technology, Science and Draw Investors"). The article was picked up by the Knight-Ridder news service and published in a number of additional business publications across the country. Running on the front page of The Boston Globe's business section, the article offered a comprehensive look at Color Kinetics, from its unique culture and innovative technologies to its high-profile customers and future business outlook. Reporter Alex Pham listed a number of Color Kinetics' national clients and noted how "like moths to light, venture capitalists and other investors have also been drawn to the company." The article also referenced a June report by Jesup & Lamont Securities Corp. that says "LED lighting is poised to take over the $10 billion commercial and residential lighting market now dominated by halogen and incandescent lights."

The Boston Sunday Herald caught wind of this digital movement and detailed Color Kinetics in its November 21, 1999, edition ("Man Makes Light of Display Firm"). Reporter Patricia Resende visited the Color Kinetics office in downtown Boston to interview company co-founder, President and CEO George Mueller. Her visit was featured on the front page of the paper's business section and provided an in-depth view of Color Kinetics' history and hip atmosphere, noting that Mueller runs the multimillion-dollar company "between a quick kick of his soccer ball, a rematch of pingpong with a daring employee and skateboarding to work." The article also notes the company's aggressive growth, expanding from just two employees to 43 in two and a half years and conducting three rounds of venture capital financing, with revenues expected to reach $5 to $7 million for 1999.

What's next for this bright, young company? Color Kinetics has taken the lighting industry by "color" storm, and is realizing its mission of creating a more bright and colorful world. In addition to its patented Chromacore technology, the company has a growing portfolio of intellectual property filings encompassing a number of emerging digital technologies. So stay tuned as Color Kinetics takes its headline-grabbing technology in some exciting new directions!
