Digital Lighting Pioneer Continues To Impress at Design Resources

BOSTON — October 29, 1999 — Color Kinetics Incorporated,
the pioneer of full spectrum digital lighting, has been honored
by the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) with a "Best
of Show" award at the Design Resources XV show held in Sarasota,
Florida. The award, presented by the Florida Chapter of the ASID,
recognizes Color Kinetics' innovative color-changing lighting technology
and the application-based demonstrations of Color Kinetics products
presented at the show by Siesta Lighting, a Color Kinetics Master
Distributor based in Sarasota.
Color Kinetics and Siesta Lighting designed several real-world applications
to showcase the wealth of creative possibilities that Color Kinetics
lighting brings to interior design. Of note was an architectural
cove brought to life with brilliant color and colored lighting effects
— including a chasing rainbow — by Color Kinetics' iColor™
Cove luminaire. In addition, standard MR16 fixtures produced a never-before-available
range of color and effects courtesy of iColor MR, the company's
MR16 replacement lamp that takes these fixtures way beyond white
light, with no additional wiring or installation required.
All of Color Kinetics products are powered by Chromacore™,
the company's patent-pending technology which generates over 16.7
million colors and a variety of color changing effects using a microprocessor
and RGB color mixing of light emitting diodes (LEDs). This digital
light generation differs from ordinary lighting techniques which
require motors and filters over white light sources to produce colors
and color effects. Color Kinetics lights contains built-in intelligence
which runs an assortment of lighting shows such as color cross fades,
color washes, random color changes and constant colors. They can
be controlled via on-board switches or controlled externally through
industry standard DMX512 controllers, PCs or Color Kinetics' own
line of easy-to-use controllers.
In addition to magnificent colors, Color Kinetics digital lights
offer an ultra-long source life of 100,000 hours, eliminating the
need for replacement lamps and other cost and maintenance issues
inherent in conventional colored lighting options. Color Kinetics
lights use very little power, produce virtually no heat or UV emissions,
and generate their dynamic color with no moving parts.
Color Kinetics President and CEO George Mueller was ecstatic about
receiving this latest in a long line of awards for Color Kinetics'
technology, particularly because the award comes from the design
community. "This award is especially exciting for us because it
confirms that our lights, with their unique benefits and capabilities,
fill an important need for designers looking to transcend the boundaries
of working with conventional colored lighting options," he stated.
