LIGHT SYSTEM MANAGER

FACT SHEET

Color Kinetics delivers the next generation of intelligent LED illumination control with Light System Manager - an integrated software/hardware solution engineered to cost effectively enable large-scale and intricately designed installations, exceeding the limitations of today's lighting programming and network protocols. From stage, to themed environments, to architectural applications, Light System Manager facilitates the management, authoring, and control of show effects that span multiple DMX universes and scale to tens of thousands of individually controlled LED-based nodes.

The advancement of LED-based technologies and products has created a demand for superior authoring and control systems that deliver the same level of flexibility in design and ease of use. As designers realize the full creative potential of LED illumination, they require new tools to bring their large-scale designs to life with minimized time, resources, and expense.

Light System Manager combines an intuitive graphical user interface for design and show authoring with a powerful hardware engine that simplifies the storage and triggering of light show effects across elaborate, multi-unit installations - all while enabling fine-grained control to extend the aesthetic capabilities of LEDs far beyond what was previously possible. Light System Manager is comprised of two components; Light System Composer and Light System Engine.

Light System Composer is a software application that dramatically reduces the time and guesswork involved in designing intricate and previously unattainable effects, including color-changing swirls, bursts, logos, and complex animated effects. Light System Composer runs on Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Mac OS X. It encompasses three functions:

Management - The management function provides a simple, graphical user interface to quickly and easily manage and map large quantities of lights. Data interfaces provide a means to convert Ethernet data into data that can be understood by each individual light. In large-scale installations, the management function can query the network to simplify the discovery and addressing of lights.

Show Authoring - The show authoring function allows users to create custom effects or apply pre-programmed effects to installations that involve multiple universes in different geographic locations, but hardwired via an Ethernet switch. Formerly difficult-to-manage show parameters, such as timing, direction, priority, and the ability to specify relationships with other effects, are now managed quickly and easily. To create custom effects, the user simply chooses from a palette of standard effects, then customizes the effect parameters with a simple point and click. To easily create animated shows, a series of images can be imported from graphical design packages, such as Macromedia Flash, to Light System Composer.

Configuration - The configuration function allows users to specify playback parameters, such as schedules, triggers, and controllers. For example, a Halloween-themed show can be specified to run every year from September 15 through October 31. Hourly, daily, and weekly scheduling are additional options. Users also have the ability to assign different zones to an installation. For example, specify a blue effect to run in the reception area, and a red effect to run in the conference room. Once light show effects are programmed, the show is exported and stored on Light System Engine.

Light System Engine is an Ethernet-based hardware controller that stores and plays a large quantity of light show effects based on time of day and event scheduling. After shows are downloaded to Light System Engine, a Playback Control function allows users to monitor shows and effects. It also allows users to perform dynamic changes to show effects, including brightness, frame rates, and changes from one show to another on the fly. Light System Engine runs on the Linux platform and incorporates an Ethernet port, CD drive, and cabling.

Light System Manager is available in standard and customized configurations.
