COLOR KINETICS INTRODUCES DIGITAL LIGHT ENGINES
Integrated OEM product offering extends proven technology, support and services for
developing complete LED illumination systems in wide-ranging markets
Boston, MA - October 15, 2003 -Color Kinetics Incorporated today further supported the accelerating adoption of intelligent LED illumination with the launch of Digital Light Engines - the company's first standardized offering to enable the successful development and delivery of complete LED illumination systems based on proven, patented Chromacore® technology. Digital Light Engines will form the intelligent core of end-to-end systems designed by OEM partners who recognize the value and increasingly pervasive role of LEDs in architectural, theatrical and many other lighting applications.
In addition to the inherent long-life, low-maintenance benefits of LED sources, illumination systems based on Digital Light Engines will benefit from Color Kinetics' industry-leading expertise, market-proven infrastructure and compatibility across Color Kinetics' broad line of power, control and authoring products. As a result, manufacturers can efficiently develop and deliver complete LED illumination systems that meet diverse application demands - from interior and exterior architectural lighting, to entertainment and themed environments, as successfully demonstrated by Altman Lighting and its forthcoming line of Digital Light Engine-based products.
The Digital Light Engine offering will include LED-based lighting modules supported by intellectual property and comprehensive materials, guidelines and services to ensure the successful integration of Color Kinetics' technology. The first release includes:
- LED-based lighting modules designed for rectangular and circular light fixtures, with additional module options to follow within the year.
- Integration guidelines covering thermal, power, optics, regulatory and other technical considerations.
- Reference guidelines for developing systems based on Color Kinetics or standard DMX control and authoring products.
- Support services to facilitate the development and application of Digital Light Engine-powered products.
- Access to Color Kinetics' broad range of advanced power, control and authoring products to deliver complete systems.
- A license to use applicable Color Kinetics-issued patents.
"This is an exciting initiative for Color Kinetics - both in fostering industry adoption of intelligent LED illumination and in maximizing the value of our intellectual property and integrated systems approach," said Bill Sims, President and COO, Color Kinetics. "As industry pioneers, we're applying years of technology development and expertise to offer a one-stop solution that spans technology, power and control products, integration support and services - empowering partners across diverse lighting market segments."
Color Kinetics' OEM and Licensing unit extends the company's intellectual property and brand recognition to third parties that wish to differentiate and enhance their own product offerings with the aesthetic and practical benefits of LED-based illumination. The company forms OEM and licensing relationships with companies across professional lighting, consumer products, and other industries that complement its own sales efforts or extend its technology to diverse market opportunities, such as aerospace, pool and spa, vending and gaming.
