COLOR KINETICS BREAKS BOUNDARIES IN ENTERTAINMENT AND ARCHITECTURAL LIGHTING
New systems based on Chromasic™ technology support unlimited creativity and unprecedented applications
LONDON, UK - PLASA 2003- September 8, 2003 - Reinforcing its role as the pioneer of intelligent LED-based illumination technologies, Color Kinetics Incorporated today broke boundaries in entertainment and architectural lighting with the introduction of iColor® Tile FX and iColor® Flex SL - the first generation of systems based on its breakthrough Chromasic™ technology. From stage, to themed environments, to architectural applications, the Chromasic-based systems enable both small and large-scale installations that extend the aesthetic and control capabilities of LEDs far beyond what was previously possible.
Chromasic integrates digital LED control and communication technology in a single silicon chip, powering a highly controllable point of light that can generate 64 billion color combinations and form the basis for complex designs that surpass the capabilities of today's programming and network protocols. The industry's first Chromasic-based systems combine advanced LED technology, intelligent control, and intuitive authoring software to distinguish virtually any space with previously unattainable color and effects, scaling from simple to elaborate designs that comprise many thousands of individually controlled light nodes. The advanced hardware/software and control platform that supports these systems will be introduced later this year.
iColor® Tile FX creates a canvas for unlimited creative expression in the form of a sophisticated, tile-like system that captivates independently or as part of a large-scale, multi-system installation. Each 2' by 2' panel conceals 144 individually addressable, tri-color nodes (432 LEDs total) that are powered by Chromasic, enabling fine-grained control to create images with light - from morphing color waves, to animated objects, to logos and emblems. iColor® Tile FX is designed for recess and surface mounting, and is ideal for retrofitting ceiling tiles and surfaces. The system comes with an opaque, vacuum-formed lens and offers a unique frame structure that's engineered to accept custom lens options. iColor® Tile FX will support indoor and outdoor applications and will use an integrated power/data supply with the option of pre-programmed light shows, Ethernet, or DMX control.
iColor® Flex SL is a multi-purpose, LED-based strand that generates extraordinary effects and accommodates expansive installations without the constraints of fixture size, shape or space. Each strand of iColor® Flex SL is comprised of 50 individually addressable, tri-color nodes (150 LEDs total), powered by Chromasic and spaced in 2", 4", or custom-sized increments up to 12". Available as an independent system or as a component for custom fixtures, iColor® Flex SL breaks spatial boundaries for completely new applications, from the lighting of three-dimensional shapes, logos and images, to landscape and aisle lighting, or alcove and accent lighting in uniquely defined spaces. iColor® Flex SL is indoor/outdoor rated and will use an integrated power/data supply with the option of pre-programmed light shows, Ethernet, or DMX control.
Color Kinetics' LED-based illumination technology breaks boundaries for innovative entertainment and architectural
applications that call for highly efficient, low-heat, noise-free systems that can generate a vast color range and allow
for customizable effects in theater, stage, television production, and hospitality design. The industry's first Chromasic-
based systems represent a breakthrough in creative control of LED light sources by reducing the size of a single,
controllable point of colored light. Color Kinetics enables thousands of high profile installations worldwide with its
broad range of systems and technologies, including the Tony Award®-nominated set of Hairspray on Broadway,
Boston Symphony Hall, Harrah's Atlantic City, MGM Grand Tabu Lounge, Morimoto restaurant, and the famed
exterior façade of Chicago's Goodman Theatre.
iColor® Tile FX and iColor® Flex SL will be available in December 2003.
