COLOR KINETICS DELIVERS ON LED PRICE/PERFORMANCE PROMISE;
LOWERS PRICING ON ALL ILLUMINATION PRODUCTS BY UP TO 55%
Semiconductor Advances Leveraged, Offering Dramatic Performance Improvements
LAS VEGAS - October 18, 2002 - Building on the company's role as the leader in intelligent LED illumination technologies, Color Kinetics Incorporated is delivering on the promise of LEDs with significant price reductions on all of its award-winning illumination products. In addition, leveraging the latest semiconductor advancements and the company's LED expertise, Color Kinetics is introducing new products that offer dramatic performance improvements. For example, for a system comparable to the company's original C-200 fixture, Color Kinetics can now deliver a higher intensity product at a 55% lower price than when the technology was first introduced.
As an emerging technology, LEDs are riding the "silicon cost curve" of increased performance for decreased price over time. "Color Kinetics has always championed the idea that the LED price/performance curve would reach a point where it would become competitive with conventional light sources, and the momentum this curve is gaining will speed the adoption of solid state illumination among a wide variety of applications," notes Bill Sims, President and COO of Color Kinetics. "It also boosts Color Kinetics' market competitiveness, largely diminishing the last area in which traditional lighting methods were able to challenge our intelligent LED-based illumination: price."
In leading the advancement and adoption of solid-state illumination through its patented Chromacore® technology and other intellectual property holdings, Color Kinetics has been driving and expanding the far-reaching potential of LEDs since the company's founding five years ago. As the recognized pioneer and leader in the LED illumination space, Color Kinetics has developed strong working partnerships with LED manufacturers that afford the company unrivaled access to the newest and brightest LEDs. As a result, Color Kinetics is able to offer superior performance in its products at reduced prices for its customers --- a development that company expects to expand upon as the LED price/performance curve continues to improve.
The introduction of Chromacore at LDI in 1997 caused a stir in the industry by offering a completely new way of creating colored light and effects, resulting in the establishment of a brand-new market segment. Now in its fifth year of operation, Color Kinetics intelligent illumination products may be found adding color and excitement to a variety of lighting designs in a number of installations, including architectural, hospitality, entertainment and theatrical applications. In addition to providing the ability of creating millions of colors of light and a variety of dynamic lighting effects, all of these projects benefit from the many advantages of LED illumination technology, including low power draw, very little heat production, ultra long source life, compact design, and no noise or UV emissions. Color Kinetics continues to lead the development of Solid State Lighting technologies in an effort to expand the use of LED technology across the globe.
