POSITION DESCRIPTION
Designs and develops product concepts, electrical subsystems, circuitry, and switch mode power supplies for Color Kinetics. Can integrate digital electronics at the system level and has a broad understanding of EMI. Execute and manage product design from research and concept through production for advanced technologies including design, technology feasibility, prototyping, debug validation, testing and certification. Responsible for performing the tasks directly and working with others to ensure the project moves forward. Applies advanced technical principles, theories and concepts. Contributes to the development of new principles and concepts. Mentors and leads by example. Must be self-motivated, driven for success and willing to contribute to building team relationships.
PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES / OBJECTIVES
Provides engineering expertise in the areas of electrical, thermal and system level design throughout the organization. Must have experience interacting with mechanical engineers and inductrial designers.
Executes and directly manages products and advanced technologies from concept to product release, including hands-on design, development, construction and testing of prototypes.
Contributes towards the on-time delivery of well designed, high quality products.
Recommends methods, and technologies for improvement based on manufacturing needs and capabilities.
Assists in the development of technical specifications for future projects and technologies. Work to develop and execute technical roadmaps.
Enforces high quality thought product cycle to ensue product reliability and safety.

- 5+ years experience
- Leads or owns some portion of a product design
- Works autonomously on multiple concurrent projects
NATURE & SCOPE
The Senior Electrical Engineer reports directly to a Project Team leader and is primarily responsible for providing electrical technical designs and support to on-going products currently in development and on technical roadmaps. Contributes to the development of new principles, concepts and system level designs. Is also responsible for taking these contributions and implementing them in new products.
Helps develop methods and procedures within the electrical group and team to increase efficiency and flow of information. Not afraid to bring potential issues to surface and willing to be hands-on when needed. Must be able to take criticism constructively.
Works under only general direction towards predetermined long-range goals and objectives. Works independently to pursue courses of action necessary to obtain desired results. Work is reviewed periodically for adequacy and direction in meeting objectives. Holds frequent design review meetings and has shown ability to manage up.
REQUIREMENTS
- BS with at least 5 years of analog electrical, thermal, & mechanical packaging design experience. MS is a plus.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience in a team-based product development environment.
- Ability to work independently and multi-task in a dynamic, fast-moving setting.

The Senior Electrical Engineer works on complex technical problems and provides solutions, which require regular use of ingenuity and creativity. Must develop efficient and effective timely solutions to diverse and complex design problems. They should posses the ability to use logic to solve difficult problems and be able to seek out hidden problems. Must be honest with the analysis and does not stop at the first solution to a problem. The ability to learn on the fly and pick up new method quickly and finds these challenges exciting.
