POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Quality Engineering Technician will perform functional, safety, environmental, and basic performance testing on new products in development as well as on existing product. Safety testing may include formal tests for UL listing or CE certification.
Additionally, the Quality Engineering Technician will conduct troubleshooting and failure analysis of products which have malfunctioned or completely failed. Failure investigations may be performed on new designs, product in manufacturing, or customer returns. Lastly, the position will log failure results into failure reporting and analysis software tool.
PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES / OBJECTIVES
- Conducts testing at in-house quality lab, customer sites, warehousing locations, or third party test locations if necessary
- Maintains detailed notes on testing activities
- Creates testing fixtures or jigs as necessary to properly evaluate product
- Performs failure analysis on customer returned products (RMA) and identifies root causes for failures
- Implements the RMA process for defective products
- Receives and categorizes defective units
- Investigates failures for known defects
- Segregates unique defects for further investigation
- Ensures that Contract Manufacturing Partners are provided with samples of the defects and the necessary corrective action is provided on time
- Prioritizes tasks to meet deadlines
- Writes troubleshooting guidelines for products as necessary
- Monitors and manages disposition of discrepant material in the facility
EXPERIENCE
- Education: Associates Degree or equivalent
- 3-5 years experience with electronics troubleshooting
- Meaningful prior experience in product development
- Knowledge and recognition of failure modes for common electronic components
- Ability to use common electrical laboratory instruments
- Ability to devise tests to explore failures
- Familiarity with best practices in failure analysis and ability to apply this knowledge to testing complex systems. (Identify probable cause and determine resolution path in a fast paced environment.)
- Ability to organize incoming product into likely failure categories
- Ability to communicate positively and effectively internally
- Ability to effectively work with tight schedules and fast paced environment
