NATURE & SCOPE OF POSITION
The Applications Design Engineer acts as a technical support and electrical design engineer for the OEM team. The primary objective of this role is to proactively support the growth of OEM Sales by addressing the technical support and design assistance needs of end-users and customers, and directly design custom products requested by OEM Sales customers and prospects.
The Applications Design Engineer must relate well to all kinds of people, inside and outside the organization, and build appropriate rapport, listen, and develop constructive and effective relationships. The Applications Design Engineer must be comfortable giving product demonstrations and training in front of groups of customers and prospects.
Responsibilities include a combination of pre and post sale technical support services, technical product demonstrations, making creative and innovative recommendations on the use and application of OEM technologies and services, and a thorough understanding of the competitive landscape in which we operate. The Applications Design Engineer's primary responsibility is the electrical circuit and PCB design for custom designs, leveraging Color Kinetics' expertise in LED system design.
KNOW HOW
Must be technically versed in analog circuit design, and able to understand Color Kinetics' existing LED system designs and adapt them to meet customer requirements. Must be comfortable performing hands-on tasks of PCB prototyping, light wood and metal working, and product assembly.
Must feel comfortable in a technical customer support capacity and playing an active role in the pre and post sales cycle. Must possess solid communication skills and be able to successfully build and maintain relationships with Color Kinetics' OEM customers.
Must have a minimum of 1-3 years experience in electronic circuit design and be comfortable providing technical/design support experience, experience with AutoCAD and have exceptional communication and people skills, and a high customer service orientation. Knowledge of OrCAD or other PCB design packages preferred. Electrical Engineering or equivalent degree required. Travel: 10%
PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES / OBJECTIVES
- Design and implement custom LED systems, including the electronic circuit design and PCB design by utilizing existing designs and internal design expertise to create best-quality designs.
- Work closely with other Color Kinetics design engineers to gain expert electrical design skills, as well as a deep understanding of the mechanical, thermal, optical, and control challenges of LED systems
- Assist the inside/outside sales staff and end-users in determining effective applications of Color Kinetics' OEM products and technologies to meet the design requirements of prospective customers.
- Provide product demonstrations and be a technical expert in Color Kinetics technology during sales meetings, both at Color Kinetics and on-site at customer locations.
- Provide pre and post sales technical support to Color Kinetics OEM customers and prospects, and establish strong relationships with those customers through in-depth technical knowledge and excellent communication
- Provide effective training in Color Kinetics LED systems technologies and control platforms to prospects, customers, and distribution partners
- Design, build, and deliver mock-ups of partner products integrated with Color Kinetics light engines and controllers to effectively show how Color Kinetics technology will enhance the partner products
